Celebrating National Cereal Day- 7th March

Wednesday 7th March 2018

Most people do not eat for up to 12 hours between the time of their evening meal and breakfast on the following day – during this time their energy levels fall.  The first meal of the day is the most important because it supplies the body and brain with the necessary nutrients after a night’s sleep.

But it’s important not just to eat any breakfast but to choose a meal that’s packed full of essential nutrients including calcium, fibre and a variety of vitamins and minerals including B1 and B6. And that is exactly where breakfast cereals come in.

Breakfast cereals are a great choice for breakfast and are consumed by 80% of children and approximately 50% of adults regularly. There is mounting evidence that whole grains and fibre, which are found in foods such as breakfast cereals are important for health and play a role in reducing the risk of chronic disease. However, despite the vast amount of health benefits of whole grain and fibre, intakes in the UK are less than ideal.
