ACFM Salt Reduction Commitments
The Association of Cereal Food Manufacturers (ACFM)
in January 2005 announced a commitment from all of its members* to
make a further 10% reduction in salt by the end of 2005.
This commitment from ACFM follows a 22% salt reduction already
made from 1998 to 2003, demonstrating the ACFM’s wider
commitment to encourage consumers to improve their health through
a balanced diet and active lifestyle.
Breakfast cereals on average contribute a very small proportion
of salt in the diet - no more than 5% of the average adult
daily intake2
The ACFM will continue to work closely with the FSA and the
Department of Health to meet recommended targets, while maintaining
consumer choice and acceptance.
Breakfast cereals remain a healthy and nutritious way to start
the day.
